After two decades of visiting family in Charleston, SC, Randall and I decided to leave Connecticut and permanently resettle. With two grown, independent children we were ready to take new steps in our merrymaking. With Margaux’s assistance in finding an incredible site, we’re now fearlessly plunging into building a house along Rantowles Creek in Hollywood, SC.
But why to Charleston? Recent transplants have multiple reasons for moving here; family, friends, the weather, outdoor activities and so on. Those are great reasons but what shaped so much of our decision was the people! It is heartening when one hears from total strangers a sincere, “How may I help you, Sir” or “Thank you Madam for coming to Piggly Wiggly.” These simple, uncomplicated words of respect and civility are contagious and will likely become words you’ll adopt. Plus, we so love driving down a rural road and having people relaxing on a porch wave hello!
Architecture and building have been an essential part of my early years growing up in Florida. Having an noted architect father and two architect brothers, led me into photography. Living over a decade in Germany and traveling extensively has tempered me with an accommodating world view. All and all, I have no regrets leaving behind four decades as a photographer, graphic designer and writer in the New York City area.
Having time behind a camera posing clients through awkward and trying situations, which buying a home or property often evokes, is likely a useful experience. I anticipate finding properties for families and businesses will be very gratifying!
Talented wife Randall, after years of heading the dance department at The Convent of The Secret Heart in Greenwich, Ct., is currently leading part-time Aqua fitness and Silver Sneakers classes at St. Andrews.
